My approach to teaching
Since behaviour is unique to an individual, all training starts with them and the premise that we are undertaking a study of “one”. I teach (and learn from) animals through the practical implementation of a combined knowledge of science based technologies - Learning Theory, mostly Applied Behaviour Analysis, Neurobiology, Ethology, and Physiology. All that, along with a deep understanding of the nature of dogs, means your dog gets the best possible positive and productive training or behaviour modification.
No gimmicks or fancy ‘new’ techniques, certainly no TV or old school punishment based ‘methods’. My promise is not to cause any physical, emotional or mental discomfort to your dog, or you. Clients who hire me love their dogs, are committed to their health and happiness and are prepared to teach them how to live a more stress free life in our crazy human world while having a heap of fun in the process.
FAQs
My dog and I have been to a few trainers. Why should I think that you can help us?
I’m sorry you have not had success with trainers in the past. I’m not sure why, but from experience and feedback from clients I know that there are very few trainers in this unregulated business that are dedicated to science-based humane teaching methods, committed to continued education and who are truly willing to tailor solutions for individuals. And, I really admire dogs and respect dogs for who they are. Most of my business comes from word-of-mouth referrals not fancy marketing. You can click here for testimonials.
Do I guarantee your dog will be perfectly trained?
No, and if anyone does please beware! No living being is ever 100% perfect (but they can be perfect for you) and we need to be realistic about this. The Association of Pet Dog Trainers states that, "Because of variables in dog breeding and temperament and owner commitment and experience, a trainer cannot and should not guarantee the results of his/her training.” What I can guarantee is the quality of my training and advice, your satisfaction with my service and at all times your dog will be safe from outdated punitive, abusive methods. My motto: First do no harm.
Do I train dogs like trainers on TV?
Simply, no. I believe in teaching, not punishing, therefore I train the same way as the world’s very best animal trainers do, who are busy teaching and difficult to find on TV.
Note: If you do watch any of the reality style popular TV dog training shows please adhere to the advice they themselves give - DO NOT try what they are doing at home! please Do NOT harm your dog by experimenting with their behaviour based on TV advice.
